Höstterminen 2019 startade Karlskrona kommun en internationell grundskola med IB-inriktning. Grundskolan följer en internationell läroplan och all undervisning bedrivs på engelska.
In August of 2019 the municipality of Karlskrona started an international compulsory school (age 6-16) with an IB Profile. IB stands for International Baccalaureate. An international school means that the studies will be based on and assessed according to an existing international curriculum. All the subjects, besides the language courses, will be taught in English. The international curriculum will enable parents and students to move from one country to another without it affecting the schooling of the student.
The content and quality of the education will be guaranteed both by an independent organization, International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and the Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen). The Swedish Schools Inspectorate is responsible for controlling the quality of schools in Sweden.
The new international compulsory school is located at Wämöskolan, which is part of the central school area (det centrala skolområdet).
The student must fulfill one (1) of the following criteria:
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Karlskrona Internationella Grundskola will provide a learning-focused environment that stimulates creativity and innovation in a culture of collaboration and respect so that each student develops the skills and knowledge to become internationally-minded and lifelong learner.
