Art Meets Heritage – An AR Journey Through Karlskrona
Discover Karlskrona’s World Heritage in a whole new way, where cutting-edge art and local stories come alive through Augmented Reality.
Join a unique art walk and experience the Naval Port of Karlskrona in a whole new way.
With the help of Augmented Reality (AR), three internationally acclaimed artists have created site-specific works that weave together digital innovation, local history, and people’s stories.
Through Augmented Reality, the artists have added a digital layer to the real world. The experience of these new digital artworks blends seamlessly with the physical surroundings. By gathering stories from both people and the city of Karlskrona, the artists have shaped their site-specific creations.
Let your mobile phone be your guide and watch the art come alive in the city’s iconic locations:
-
Stumholmen by the lighthouse – “Vessels” by Lena Trapp
-
Stakholmen by Scandic – “First Kiss” by Kris Pilcher
-
The tunnel at Hoglands Park – “The Sirens” by Love Antell
Kris Pilcher was fascinated by the charged history of Stakholmen, once a closed-off military site and now accessible via a pedestrian bridge, popular with visitors. Today, it’s a gathering spot for young people—sometimes the place of a first kiss. Towering above the island is Pilcher’s work, First Kiss, portraying a couple united in an embrace.
Love Antell has created a participatory work, collecting drawings and songs from people connected to the location. These diverse expressions are merged into The Sirens of the Storm Surge, placed at the entrance to the railway tunnel at Hoglands Park.
Lena Trapp delved into historical archives, blending old photographs of solemn sailors with rising sea levels. She interlaces maritime history with the climate crisis, adding a dark undertone—the fascination with the sea as both alluring and threatening. The lighthouse on Stumholmen serves as the backdrop for her site-specific work.
The three AR works are the result of the EU-funded project T.A.B – Tech, Art & Business, with Karlskrona Municipality as a partner. Konst i Blekinge took part in the jury process for the artist selection.
Step outside, point your phone at the site, and let art and world heritage merge into an entirely new experience.
