Closer is the first part of an ongoing project on family connections. The project has its origins in a trip in August 2011, to Eastern Karelia, where Helena Mutanen has her original family. The exhibition is an approach and a study of how people are affected by emigration, the fragmentation of families and how they adapt to their new country. The sculptures, objects and drawings are a kind of psychological signs, which may highlight issues and deeper meaning in the subject. The exhibition runs until February 26th.
Helena Mutanen was born in 1965 in Stockholm and is currently living and working there. She studied at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm and graduated in 1998. Helena Mutanen usually works with sculptural installations, objects, drawings or sound installations. She has exhibited all over Sweden, but also in Copenhagen, Hamburg and Warsaw. The second part of the project will be shown in Helsinki in the autumn of 2012.
